The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is a challenging competition that requires students to solve complex mathematical problems using advanced mathematical concepts and techniques.
The competition is designed to test not only the students’ mathematical abilities but also their critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills. In this article, you will get detailed overview about IMO Class 2 Chapter 2:Multiplication.
For Class 2 students, the Math Olympiad would likely refer to a more basic level competition that tests fundamental mathematical skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and basic problem-solving.

IMO Class 2 Chapter 1: Multiplication Detailed Notes
2 Digit by 1 Digit Number Multiplication (Without carrying over)
Example: 32 x 2
Step 1: Align the tens and ones by placing the larger number above the smaller number. Draw a line below the bottom number and the multiplication sign below the top number.
Step 2: Multiply the number in the bottom number’s ones place by the number in the top number’s ones place; 2×2 = 4; write 4 in the ones place.
Step 3: Multiply the number in the bottom number’s ones place by the number in the top number’s tens place; 2×3 = 6; write 6 in the tens place.
2 digit numbers divided by 1 digit numbers (With carrying Over)
Example: 12 x 5
Step 1: Align the tens and ones by placing the larger number above the smaller number. Draw a line below the bottom number and the multiplication sign below the top number.
Step 2: Multiply the number in the bottom number’s one’s place by the number in the top number’s one’s place; 5×2 =10; write 0 in the ones place and carry 1 to the tens’ column.
Step 3: Multiply the number in the bottom number’s one’s place by the number in the top number’s tens place; 5×1 =5; 5 is added to the 1 carried over a number of tens’ place.
In the tens place, write 6.
